Theoben Airguns

Theoben are now through their second decade of air rifle manufacturing. Over the years the rifles have lead the way in reliability, power and accuracy. The H.E. gas ram system allows low cocking effort and low recoil with no maintenance required. The Theoben system is held in such high esteem that we have successfully licensed a German air rifle manufacturer to also gain the benefit of the English advancement. Gone are the days when the shooter had to put up with noise, vibration and power variation of the old fashioned coil spring. The gas ram system has come of age with almost twenty years track record to prove this.

In 1988 the first Theoben SLR 88 ‘Self Loading Rifle’ was made. Production of this excellent and popular rifle lasted for only four years as manufacture of the complex components was proving too costly. CNC machinery made it possible to re-introduce this superb rifle, as too did advances in our own patented designs of the H.E. System and Evolution trigger. New production methods allowed excess metal to be machined away to lighten the gun. So once again the superb benefits of this magazine fed, multi-shot, self loading underlever rifle are available to you the customer and shooter.

Slide the magazine into the SLR -- each time the rifle is cocked with the underlever, a pellet is loaded into the breech ready to fire... simple!

The SLR uses our H.E. (High Efficiency) Gas Ram System with floating Inertia for ultra low recoil. This gives a highly consistent muzzle velocity (1% on test rifle with Crosman Premier Pellets). It also allows for a low cocking effort and no internal maintentance is required.
The Evolution Trigger is a two-stage system with adjustment for second stage weight and travel down to 1½ lbs pull and also has an automatic safety catch.
A world class Anschütz barrel is fitted and choked for superb accuracy. The integral moderator system makes use of the underlever to increase the internal volume and disperse sound more efficiently. A right hand Walnut stock is fitted with a chequered pistol grip and forend (left hand also available).
The rifle is finished to the usual high standard of polished and blued steel.
Experience has shown that Theoben rifles hardly loose value over time if they are kept in good condition.

Welcome to the new generation of air rifles fitted with the H.E. (High Efficiency) system. This is what the serious hunter has been waiting for. Stroll around your favourite shoot with the rifle cocked, ready for that moment of instant action. No need to worry about springs being left coil-bound, the Theoben System does not have that problem. No need to worry about wasted shots, one stroke to re-cock and you're back in action. Not like a pump-up that tires out the shooter in between shots. Also we do not have cartridges that need filling each shot. The power in our gas ram is always available. We are serious air rifle users and we have engineered this weapon for maximum shooting and minimum maintenance!

All our break-action rifles now have the advantage of the Theoben H.E. System. This dramatically reduces the cocking effort without any loss of performance. 12ft/lbs rifles are built with the ultra short stroke of 2.2 inches for lightening fast lock time and very low cocking effort. Ideal for precision shooting out to 50 yards or more, providing the quality pellets we recommed are used. The Eliminator produces the highest power of any break action rifle in the world - over 30 ft/lbs energy. These rifles need a UK Fire Arms Certificate or can be used overseas where no maximum limit is set.

The Theoben gas spring system is good for tens of thousands of shots, with no change of power, unlike a coil spring that weakens from day one, so you can leave the rifle cocked for as long as you like with no worries about it wearing out or loss of power over time.

The advantages of the Theoben H.E. System

1. The main benefit must be the consistency of power, because the system is sealed, then each time the rifle is cocked the same air pressure is used over and over again.
2. This means that precisely 12 ft/lbs in .177 cal, .20 cal, .22 cal or .25 cal can be set and maintained for thousands of rounds with no maintenance.
3. The gun can be left cocked whilst hunting, something not recommended with a spring rifle, due to spring fatigue.
4. The rifle has a very low cocking effort.
5. The action is quicker than a spring rifle.

Handling and Finishing
Many people comment that the Theoben is quieter than, and responds quicker than a spring rifle. We will leave you to judge this when you try one. Note, it's about one pound lighter than a comparable rifle, important if you are out shooting for any length of time. There are less moving parts than a spring rifle, so the recoil is less as well. It's a very modern style, comfortable to handle, beautiful to look at. Metal parts are finished in traditional gun black, as used on expensive shotguns. The Theoben is also lubricated in such a way that no further maintenance will be required.
